Well it's time to put the new plates on and end the 10 year restoration. The vehicle is a 67 C-10. I went to get the plates today and found that I have 3 choices.

I can keep the original beat up plates from 1967. They would have to be restored of course. This would be the most expensive route.

I can get Historical plates. A few travel restrictions would apply.

I can get the regular new style plates.

This vehicle is a mild custom. Cost is not a factor. What plates would look best on this truck? Give me your thoughts.

There might be more options that you don't know about regarding different plates and restrictions....My dad does vehicle inspections for the WSP and is a retired trooper x 30 years. He works at the Union Gap office. Give him a call and ask for Marlin and tell him he son told you to call. It might give you some better ideas....

I'd go with the dated tags if restriction free.
I wish Ohio would do this, it is free revinue if they played there cards right.
1 The state wouldn't have to provide (at a loss) the plates...owner would have to supply them.

2 Just about anyone who would want to run dated tags would probably be willing to spend an extra 5 or 10 bucks a year to keep them. I know I would.
Free money to the state, and while still making the ppl smile. It's a win-win situation.

i have decided to put off finishing my truck until i get out of college, but i do have some 1971 texas farm truck plates that are going on it after i rebuild it.

You guys are able to run them every day with no restrictions too.
I had just bought some '70 Tx tags (mint condition too) about 3 days before I totaled the blue longhorn. I had the papers from the DPS (DMV to the rest of the world) and was ready to go for it.
At least i turned quite a profit on the tags when i sold them....like 300% profit.
Paid 30 bucks....sold them for 90.

those plates are really sharp, however, unless it's really a farm truck i was told that they're kind of weird here about farm truck plates. was going to do the same thing but they told me i couldn't.

now if you have a farm...

I am looking for 1967 Michigan plates..

Here in Michigan you can register the vehicle with plates of the year the car was manufactured. There is a $35 charge to do so (not extra, the only charge) and they NEVER expore!

BUT The vehicle is only supposed to be driven for parades, club use, etc. But how are they gonna know? hmm?

I've got the Washington collector vehicle plates on my Suburban. If you don't drive it on a daily basis, it won't be a problem dealing with the restrictions. Plus there is a one-time registration fee--you never have to pay and/or renew again!

By the way, are you sure you can use the original plates? I thought the original white and green plates were mandated to be replaced with the new style.

I just picked up a 70' Oklahoma tag. I haven't made it by the tag agency so i can put it on my truck. Oh i got it off of ebay for 9 bucks with shipping. It looks brand new.

i wish Ohio would do it too...my mom went to a yard sale the other day and came back with a mint cond '69 Ohio license plate, for 50 CENTS. it's not a truck plate, but oh well. its cool anyways.

Getting back to the original question, I'd go with the newer style plates for the simple reason it's a "mild custom". This is not to say your truck is not deserving, but I think it would look out-of-place on this type of resto. I certainly would not go with historical plates, they scream "dog dish hubcaps" to me (which IMO is cool), but not befitting of your vehicle as described.

moneyguru, if you ever wreck your truck on your way to work, or with groceries on the back (or building suplies...what ever) and you can not prove you were on the way to a shop or to an exibit of some sorts, you can get slapped with improper registration...almost the same (the exact same in some states) as fake tags.
That's HUGE trouble.
A guy at work thought he was OK with his '70 Chrysler 300. He could drive iot to work and not have to lie about where he was headed. (we work at a shop) He got rearended and is now charged with felony ficticious tags. (I know I misspelled it)

I absolutely agree with you. Currently my truck isn't on the road yet...I do have a 73 Porsche 914 registered with 1973 plates and drive it whenever I feel like it. I wouldn't have much trouble proving it wasn't my daily driver because I own 2 Audi S4's, the porsche, an 85 Scirocco, a 90 Suburban and then the 67 GMC longstep.

Would I suggest plating with the older plates for your only vehicle....NO....Just stating that you can use it for reasonable uses other than a parade or club event within.

Anybody have some 1967 Michigan plates?
