Started floor coating / rust protection
So I started refinishing my interior the other day I only have few pics of the start but I will update as I go along. This is not a show truck or even a restoration this is purely for rust protection and function maybe one day down the road (way down) she will get a real restore.
Pulled all the nasty 23 year old holding moisture carpet Scrapped all the loose paint and rust that was starting Then hit all the main potential rust areas with some left over POR-15 Next I will paint the whole floor with the home made lizard skin I read about on here, then finish painting all the jams, door interior, lower dash, etc. to match the truck. I already have seat covers ordered need to dye the seat belts, paint the door panels and repair the dash pad and she she look good as new. Just for the hell of it here is a pic of the truck also |

Re: Started floor coating / rust protection
Thanks man. Here is one link
http://www.hotrodders.com/forum/alte...in-103610.html If you google home made lizard skin or microballoons or microspheres they are several threads around on various sites. There was one on here is how I found it originally but now I cant seem to find it. Basically you mix microballoons from the hobby store or in my case ebay into some good paint and paint your floor for heat and sound deadening. |

Re: Started floor coating / rust protection
Thanks man. It is mostly a preservation effort at this point bringing the truck from Alabama to Ohio, I dont want it to rot out like my last one did. One day I may actually to a restore or actually more of a modded rebuild. I am hoping to swap out the 454 for a Cummins next year and get a little better MPGs. But other than that she is a daily driver.

Re: Started floor coating / rust protection
Mixed up my homemade lizard skin concoction this weekend.
1 gallon of Kool-seal $18.00 1 quart of Rustoleum $9.00 3/4 of a small bucket (approx. 1 quart) of micro ballons / or micro spheres $20.00 (ebay) First coat Second and third coat New cheap ebay seat covers I did the roof as well but didnt take any pics. Over all it deadens the sound dramatically. I drove the truck with no carpet or anything for a week so I was used to all the noise, then driving after wards big difference. I cant really tell any difference about the heat yet as it was cold this morning so I had the heater on anyway. The only problem I think I may have is that is was cold and rainy here in Ohio this weekend and I painted it anyway (outside) and it is still a little tacky and soft so I dont think it has cured 100%. It is supposed to warm up over the next few days so hopefully it will still cure up a little and stick good. I will update and let you know if it is worth doing or not. |

Re: Started floor coating / rust protection
Hey GMC87, found your "old" thread on the homemade lizard skin you made. How is it holding and do you think it was worth it? ANY update will be appreciated. Looking to do the cab in my '67 pickup and later on my 72 blazer.
