New Big Block

Just got it from my engine builder and started adding on the goodies. 465 CI BB, 400HP with 445 lb/ft Torque. Should be in the truck in a week or two. I will update with any progress.

it sure looks nice but 465CI and it only make 400hp and 445lb of torque? seems awfully week for a motor that big. Even with a mild cam and freshened up factory heads that thing should be pumping a good 500lbs of torque somewhere in the RPM range.

Mac808, I bought everything you see as a kit. You can find pulleys, brackets and everything you need at Bills Hot Rod Company. They are out of Southern California.

Pockets, yeah I live in Phoenix, Az. We have emissions to deal with here. We put a mild cam and domed pistons etc. to get as much horsepower and torque as we could, but still get through emissions.

Everyone else, I am putting it in my 72 Cheyenne K20. There is an older photo of it I use for my avatar. I think 400 HP and 445 of torque will get me around just fine. All I really do is pull my trailer with quads on it, maybe go to the dump a couple times a month. The old 454 I had in it was a stock Mark IV that only had maybe 270-290 HP, so it should make quite a bit of difference with the new motor. As far as the cubic inches I stated, I am only relaying what the engine builder told me. I really don't know enough about all of that to make a semi-intelligent answer.

And yes, I am very excited. I have been saving for this motor a long time. Every night I empty out my pockets and put my spare change in the old 5 gallon H20 jug, I eat at home, not go anywhere on vacation, just to save for the motor. You would be surprised how quick it all adds up.

BTW, what you did to save up for this motor is dedication! You are disciplined like a Buddhist monk!
I could probably find a lot of extra $ by doing that and cutting out 'excess' and get my truck exactly the way I want twice as fast.
