I was getting excited about getting my truck closer to being a driver, so after they motor had been sitting for almost 2 years I fired it up only to hear a rod knock !!! so I tear down my short block I bought thinking it only needed new rings an bearings , only to find that some PO ! had ran it out of oil an the #6 rod bearings were shot an had ground a 1/8 inch deep spot on its side of the crank so now I have to find a new crank , new rods ! good news is that but 4 bolt main block is still good ! I'm hoping to pull my motor thats in it an find out how bad things are there maybe I can have that crank redone an the rod isnt to bad !

Sorry to hear that! I had a bad problem too about a year ago: I was merrily driving my truck when the oil pressure gauge tube snapped and spewed my oil away with me unawares, until it was too late. Needed a tow, and damaged the engine pretty bad. Things like this happen, but it's just a part of life and we have to make do. I'm at least looking forward to building an engine from scratch this summer, won't that be a walk in the park

Well I knew I should have rebuilt mine while I had it out of the truck, I was in the process of getting it all put back together after a total tear down 4 years ago , I'm not looking forward to pulling the engine again but I guess it will give me a chance to repaint areas where things got scratched an brake fluid overflowed when bleeding the brakes .

That blows. Setbacks are never any fun. I've had quite a few unexpected ones my self. Just one of the parts of working on old stuff. You never know what's wrong till you look over everything yourself.

This is the good that will come out of the bad. Once you get everything back to gether and painted you will see all the good.

It will probably cost less to buy a refurbished SBC crank than it will to have yours done. Check with your local reputable machine shop.

Yea I'm checking out all the options , since Its not ready for the road an there time to do it I want it done right , already talked to all the local shops One said he builds so many race motors , he has plenty of extra rods hed just give me one , an can get me a crank for 100, so I'll proably buy most all I need from him !
