Hey!

I got my 65 on the road after sitting since 2005, did a front end rebuild along with front disc brakes, with power booster, and a power steering swap.

Only cost 25 bucks to register in Arizona, and insurance for it is 200 bucks a year, for the basic required by law.

I swapped out a Carter AFB 600 and bought a Edelbrock Q-jet performer RPM 850 cfm with electric choke, it starts nice, and I like the idle it has while warming up.

Oh yeah, it's got a 1968 396 big block, and a TH400 trans, 3.73 rear gears.

It's kinda fun to putt around in, but man just driving 45 mph the rpms are up there.

I have been thinking of doing a LS swap for years, and decided the 5.3 truck engine with 4L60-E would be the best choice for economy, and decent power.

Or, I could put a 700-R4 behind the 396.

If gas was 2 bucks a gallon, or less I would not care and keep the big block, but the way fuel prices are, you can understand!

I filled it up and it was almost 70 bucks!

Could a 396 with q-jet, well tuned and 700-R4 get near a 5.3 injected Vortec with 4L60-E's mpg?

Re: Hey!

I might, big block sure does look good under the hood, even if it is dusty and kinda greasy!

Re: Hey!

I have been driving it to a scrapyard to get rid of metal junk (old truck parts, water heater) and back and forth to the storage building to get stuff out.

It's pretty handy having a working truck.

Haha, this woman was riding my ass, when she had another lane to pass, she was driving some little SUV, and kept getting right on my truck.

Would let off the gas just to go slower, and I was going over the speed limit.

When I slowed down for the school zone for 15mph, the bimbo passed and ran a stop sign, while turning right, to go into the school.

I hope she was not a teacher, and if she was going to pick up her kid, you would think she would want to drive careful?
