Please help

I shortened my steering column today in my 71 GMC 3500. I have a turbo 400 transmission and after I moved the shaft down 3 inches toward the front of the truck, the transmission linkage no longer stays in place. The link at the top just moves up and down the shaft. Did I miss a part or something? Someone please post a pic of what they have so I can see if I'm nuts.

Thanks,

Dan

Re: Please help

OK, I drilled a hole in the end tapped it and added a set screw. Problem solved.

Re: Please help

been wondering if I could, or should, shorten mine. Have a mid 80's column and seats from a 03 Yukon. Seats have built in shoulder belts which I really like. But it's a tight fit! Was it a difficult job? what column do you have in yours?
