Well its about time to pull out my motor and transmission and was wondering the steps needed to pull the motor/transmission together? My truck is a 307/sm465 if that helps. This is my first time pulling out a motor and transmission so all info would be awesome

Its pretty basic stuff really, you will do fine. I always start by pulling the distributer so i dont break it if the motor and tranny swings. Then unbolt the headers at the heads and leave them in the frame, if manifolds just unhook them from the downpipes. Then attach your cherry picker via chain and strong bolts. You can use a motor plate instead if you pull the carb. Use the picker to take a bit off the weight of the engine/tranny, not too much or it will jump when you unbolt your mounts. Pull your driveshaft from the tranny and use a ziplock bag and big rubber band around tailshaft of tranny. Then you need to unbolt your motor and tranny mounts. Should come right out. I do recommend taking off the front clip of the truck. Makes it worlds easier for the time it takes to pull the fenders and core support.

My advice is to purchase a reproduction FACTORY service manual for your year vehicle. It is a worthwhile investment.

These trucks are a religion and a FACTORY service manual is the Bible.

get some one with experience to help you out ,its dangerous work if you dont know what your doing ,learn how to remove one proper way ,to many butchers out there knowing short cuts .just sayin

Doing this for the first time, you really need somebody who has done it before to help you. Basic steps are: drain fluids, disconnect everything that is staying (exhaust pipes, shift linkage, fuel line, wiring, p/s pump, a/c compressor, etc.), unbolt engine and transmission mounts, find a sturdy place to attach like lift eyes or at least a 3/8 bolt, and pull it out with a good overhead lift, forklift, or cherry picker hoist. Make sure whatever you use to pull it is capable of handling the weight-don't use a tree- or under a deck unless you know it is reinforced sufficiently. There are many things missing from my list like protecting things, and balancing, and care to be sure you don't crush a hand-or worse. Be careful! Get some experienced help if at all possible.

the above is great advice...... just keep in mind this can be a dangerous task.. always keep safety in mind... it is a task that the average person can complete.... take your time.. unhook everything... watch as the engine is being lifted.. there is almost always something still hooked up or being caught on the engine/tranny......... i strongly suggest experienced help.... be safe, have fun...

O ya my father pulled a few motors before so he's going to help an we have a small tractor for taking it out. I bought a manual exactly for this truck that's the original factory manual an also a chilton manual. This may a dumb question but how do you disconnect the drive shaft from the transmission?

Driveshaft should slide right out of the transmission.

rear intake bolt on one side, front intake bolt on the other side, making sure to use a good washer so bolt want go through link.
3/8x16 x 2 1/2
