Lowering block and c-notch question.
I am working on a 55 With a camaro clip with 2" drop spindles and CPP lowering rear springs. Question is how much can i drop rear with lowering blocks with out doing a c notch? I do not have engine or trans in yet which will drop the front. I have 4.5" between axle and frame with no bed or fuel tank weight added yet.

Re: Lowering block and c-notch question.
The amount of space you need between the axle and frame will depend on if you plan to use your truck to haul heavy items.
I have always used 3-1/2" as an ideal "loaded" clearance between the rear axle and the frame. That being said you can reduce the 3-1/2" to say 2-1/2" if you use some type of overload device, such as helper springs or overload air bags. The other thing to consider with lowering blocks is scrub line. You don't want any suspension components hanging lower than the wheels, if you do and you get a flat tire you will be dragging the suspension. A lot of people don't consider this and it is quite dangerous. Never violate scrub line requirements, the life you save may be your own. Last edited by lakeroadster; 05-30-2011 at 03:39 PM. |
