Re: Tbi 350 Rebuild Help

Why rebuild it? If you can't do it yourself, you are far better off buying a crate motor from GM. In all likelyhood, you will pay less for a brand new unit than you will pay for a quality rebuild. jim

Stock crate motor for TBI, only way to go. Don't play with the cam and stuff, unless you just like headaches.

Without thinking for more than a millisecond, yes. If you're after a normal old every day driver that runs like it supposed to, get the stock replacement crate motor. Out with the old and in with the new, swap a few parts over and be done in a day and driving down the road. I have learned the TBI computer is very picky about what it has under the hood. The hard way.

Re: Tbi 350 Rebuild Help

I put a Blaine's reman in my old '87, and had pretty good luck with it. $650 + core isn't bad, either. Seems like with a wasted core, tax, and a new balancer and a few other parts, I was out the door for less than $1100.

Re: Tbi 350 Rebuild Help

I am still debaiting on if I want to keep it Tbi. I have been thinking about putting a carb on it after a rebuild. I am just wanting a rebuilt motor with a cam. Nothing with to much power just enough to have a lil fun.

Re: Tbi 350 Rebuild Help

87, as much as I love my Q,jets, I am smart enough to realize GM wouldn't have gone to TBI if it wasen't better for fuel economy and power. I spent 33 years working for GM as a light truck mechanic soooo, I say keep it a TBI. You can (if your somewhat mechanicly inclined) run it on propane without much trouble at all. jim

Re: Tbi 350 Rebuild Help

Iv decided to rebuild it. Imma keep it Tbi. A buddy of mine gave me a link http://tbichips.com/truckmods.htm which helped him with his rebuild. Im going to keep the rebuild relitevly simple. So far I know imma go .30 over with flat top pistons. Still unsure about which cam and head work. Once I figure out the cam and head work imma talk to the guy witht the link about the chips. Any opinions?
