Tire size help.

Ok I have a tire question. I am lowering my c10 LWB 3.5 in the front with 2.5 spindles and a 1 inch lowering coil and the rear is going down 5” with lowering coils. I have purchased the following rims for my truck and need help on an appropriate tire size.

Front rims are 17x8 while the rears are 17x9.5.

Is anyone running this combo of rims on their truck?

Thanks
Kev

Re: Tire size help.

Hello Kev!

I did a set of wheels for a customer in the same size. In my opinion a long bed need a little rake and this setup looks great. Whats the backspace on the wheels you purchased?

Tires:

Front 25560R17 Overall Diameter is 29.1"

Rear 27560R17 Overall Diameter is 30.0"

Let me know if you need anymore information!

Regards,

Perry Price

Re: Tire size help.

Here are some pictures of my 68 longbox with a 4/5 drop, 17x8's and 255-60-17's all around. I sold the truck recently but if I still had it, I would likely be putting a set of 275's on the back like the truck Perry mentioned. I think the stance was just about perfect and would have been that much better with the 275's out back.

Re: Tire size help.

If I measure from the inside bolt holes straight up to the edge of the rim I have 5 3/8 inches. Hope this is okay? I got the rims for a steal brand new in the box eagle alloy 211's. Thanks for your help.

Is that the front or the back wheels? You should be looking for about a 4.5" backspace measurement on the 8" wheels and 5" to 5.5" on the 9.5" wheels. Any less than that and the wheels will start pushing out past the fender lip.

For reference, backspace is the distance from the mounting surface to the back edge of the wheel (you gave a measurement to the front face - correct?). An 8" wheel actually measure about 9" including the lip. A 4.5" backspace would be an even (or zero) offset, taking into account the extra 1/2" for the lip.

Are your wheels a 5 on 5 bolt pattern. If so, I checked the Eagle website and it looks like the 8" wheels only come with a 4.5" backspace and the 9.5" only come with a 5.5. If so, check out some pictures of my green truck... It has that exact combination on it.

Re: Tire size help.

Here are pictures of mine with 17x8 w/255-60's on the front and 17x9.5 w/275-60's on the rear. I have 4.5" BS front and 5" BS rear. I have 2.5 spindles and 1" springs in the front and air bags in the rear simulating a 5" drop.

Another fact to remember when comparing BS numbers with others is rear end width. The 67-69 had a narrower housing (1.5" narrower) then the 70-72 housings. On my pickup, I used the wider housing so that I could use the 5" BS instead of 4.5" (common BS for the narrower housing). I did this for looks to keep my hubcaps from being to far inset.

Hope this helps.

That's a great looking setup. Fills the wheel wells nicely.
