1990 rear differenial question
I have a rear diff from a 1990 2wd silverado that I would like to have narrowed by 3 inches. The axles can't be machined because they are under cut by the splines. I would like to maintain the 5 on 5 bolt pattern, does anyone know if there is another vehicle that might have shorter axles with the 30 spline and possibly 5 on 5 bolt pattern.

Re: 1990 rear differenial question
Moser axles will have some to fit it, all they need is the measurement on how much and they will take care of it. Not sure if your wanting to spend that much or not though..

Re: 1990 rear differenial question
After checking out Moser Engineering I found out that the 1991 to1996 Chev Caprice has a 10 bolt differenial that is 60.7 inch wide and has a 5 on 5" bolt pattern. Now I have to find one.
Would a 10 bolt on a car be the same as the truck as far as gearing goes. It appears that most gearing in the Caprice's had 2.95's but found out today that the roadmasters had 2.56s. Last edited by cheford; 05-31-2011 at 08:24 PM. |

Re: 1990 rear differenial question
IIRC, they have different diameter ring gears, truck is 8.5, car is 8.25 and they're not interchangeable.
Have you thought about trying to find a 14-bolt semi-floater? They have huge axles that can be shortened and redrilled for 5-lug pattern and use old 12-bolt drums, backing plates and brake hardware. Their gov-lock is a lot beefier than a 10-bolt, too. |
