Picked up a new toy!!

Just got this one 1987 GMC shortie. Got a built sb sounds decent. Making some changes and first change is wheels. Give me your thoughts on what could be changed and maybe some opinions on wheels.

Nice looking truck! Get a good deal on it?

I'm partial to rally wheels with RWL tires. Maybe a set of spinners to "cap" it off!

Re: Picked up a new toy!!

Ok you asked for it . LOL
1st wheels gotta go BYE . Rallies 10s in rear 8s in front .
2nd Has to have front bumper , looks like it was a drag truck so fiberglass is fine .
3rd . sliding rear window .
OH and btw thats a great looking shorty...

Re: Picked up a new toy!!

1. Front bumper
2. Whats going on with the rear roll pan? Is it broken?
3. If you do change the wheels, rallys all around. 8's in front 10's in rear like mentioned.

Thats about all id change...maybe a different grill setup? Regardless its a sweet truck.

Re: Picked up a new toy!!

I do like rallies. The roll pan had been cutout for the exhaust to go through going to try an do something with the holes.

Re: Picked up a new toy!!

I see I don't need to point out the front bumper. I'd go with a Blazer style rear bumper, lose the tiny little car mirrors and put a set of the nice stainless ones on, don't know what they're called but I like them. Then I'd chrome it all out with all the factory trim, wheelwells, Silverado bodyside molding, back of the cab, drip rails etc. I love chrome! I agree 100% on the wheels, and I'm glad so many others agree on the rallys, can't beat em on a 2wd shorty. Can't say as I like that tailgate either, looks weird.

Re: Picked up a new toy!!

Oh and you need a bowtie on the grille. The aftermarket replacement grilles look fine except that they are apparently not licensed or something. So it looks like the bowtie fell off. Gotta have it

Re: Picked up a new toy!!

I for one don't mind the wheels. especially with the slicks on the rear. These are old school trucks and I think old school wheels look fine on them. It looks more like a prostreet truck with the cowl hood and smooth tailgate so I feel there are better wheel choices if you change then rallies. I would check out Racestar industries, 4in wide in the front and 10in wide in the rear. I like that it has a solid back glass and sport mirrors I think they belong on a 2wd. I think dumbo mirrors and sliders are better for 4x4s. But if it were mine here is what I would change, sport rear bumper and front bumper with no guards. I would change the core support to a dual headlight setup and MAYBE try and find a stock grill that has the bowtie. it looks like maybe it has a 83-4 style grill in it but I'm not sure. I would also like to see the front come down a couple inches. The back looks fine. If you go prostreet with the truck I dont think the side moldings would look good. If you go low with 20s or rallies or whatever it needs the molding. But then again if you dont go prostreet with the truck I think the tailgate should go too.. I dunno there are too many choices.. lol...

Re: Picked up a new toy!!

Nice looking truck. I would put stock bumpers front and rear, but I totally disagree with adding any other stock components. The truck is a smoothie, so adding trim and large mirrors are a step backwards.

For wheels, a nice set of 18's or 20's would make that thing rock. These from rocket would give it a great look.

Re: Picked up a new toy!!

I like the rockets and also the streeters look similiar. Definatly getting a new bumper and droppin the front more, in person it really is as bad as the pics look on how it sits and it drives me crazy for the front to look higher than the back. I priced a new front bumper and brackets pretty expensive, so if anybody in my area has a bumper and brackets for sale hit me up really want a smooth one.

Re: Picked up a new toy!!

Nice score. I kinda like the exhaust in the roll pan, nice personal touch. Carefull on the new wheels fitment wise. A lot depends on what was used to lower it in front. The wheels on it look fine. Hoosiers may get you some closer looks from the cops than what you bargined for. Any low gears in the rear?
