72/68 trans x-member question

I am looking for a trans x-member for my project and need to be sure I'm looking for the right thing. I'm using a 68 body and th400 mated to a np205 which is going onto a 72 frame . Can I use my factory 68 2wd x-member? Or will a 4wd x-member from a 72 blazer be the right thing to use? I found a 4wd x-member from a 72 blazer, but it had a th350. Will this still work since I'm using the 400?? Thanks for any help!

Re: 72/68 trans x-member question

Surely someone knows the answer to this on here...

Maybe I should clarify:

Will a transmission crossmember from a 72 blazer equipped with a th350/205 work in a 72 PU equipped with a TH400/205 without major modification?

Re: 72/68 trans x-member question

You need to use a 4wd crossmember. The one out of the blazer should be the same as the one out of the p/u. The only difference between to two frames are the wheelbase.

Re: 72/68 trans x-member question

use the 4x4,but just remember these trucks didn`t come from factory with a th400(in a 4x4),so you still might need to modify a little.. good luck..

Re: 72/68 trans x-member question

ok thanks guys!

That is really strange to me too. Why would GM not offer the th400 in a 4x4? And whats even stranger to me is why they would offer it in a 68 2wd 1/2 ton with a 327ci. I could understand it in a 3/4 ton (c/k 20) or behind a bigger engine.

The 68 2wd has the 327 and th400. The trans is in great shape so I figured why not try to use it.
