63 SWB $1500 a good deal?

Haven't looked at this ride yet, maybe tomorrow. It has a 327/turbo 350 combo. Says both rebuilt a year ago, which if true makes it worth the purchase. Not keen on the 20's LOL sorry I'm old skool and like my smoothies. Just wish it had a big back window and disk brakes. Right off the bat I noticed no bumpers and guessing a GMC or ?? dual head light grille.

All I know is that I want a short bed, and gonna bag it like my 56 Oval

great forum, lots of info and kool people. Hope to be around for sometime.

make sure you look at the VIN, it will tell you if it is a GMC or CHevy, also unless the seller has proof of the rebuild, machine shop stuff etc, I would discount it. A running and driving SWB truck is still worth the $1500 IMO.

Besides looking at the vin can't I just see if it has leaf springs (GMC) or trailing arms (Chevy)??

I'm calling the guy tomorrow morning. Have to look at it and if it's not a rust bucket I'll make an offer. If it's gone or rusted I found another about 1/2 from my house. Sitting way back in the yard. Couldn't tell year or lwb or swb but I'm pretty sure it was a big back window. Who knows. I'll update tomorrow.

Re: 63 SWB $1500 a good deal?

The master cylinder has the hydraulic clutch piston on it so it's a Chevrolet cab ( dual hump dash ) 60-62. The grille is 61. The hood 62-66 has yellow lense marker lights, white lenses in 62 then amber lenses 63-66. The two tone paint style on the box is the 60-61 style, 62-66 just had the white or red stripe between the bodyside moldings. Deluxe heater, the heater core is missing.

^ This is one of the many reasons why this is such an awesome forum!

I like the truck- you can always offer what you think is fair and hopefully come to an agreement based on condition.

Re: 63 SWB $1500 a good deal?

i wouldn't go further than 1 haggle, it's worth 1500. decent looking truck. but in this case, considering the work needed, need to bounce it off your skill level or how much you're willing to learn if you're not a body man. If you're can wrench a little, which it sounds like you can, then I wouldn't hesitate to jump on it. I'm with you on the big window thing, however, a 61 short fleet is sweet. I am guessing it's a 61 truck with a 62-66 hood, but check the VIN as mentioned above. Good luck!

Re: 63 SWB $1500 a good deal?

Finally got a call back and he doesn't know where the title is. In Nevada it's easier to title a salvage than it is to get a lost title. Not gonna bother on this one. If it had more done to it, maybe a big block and disc brakes I'd consider it for parts.

Oh well there always another down the road.

Thanks for the info all!!

Out of all the vehicles I have owned only had one rust bucket a 69 Road Runner. After spending too much time and money on repair pieces and 2 donor cars I have always been thankful for being a west coast car guy. My last ride was a 56 VW and the only rust was under the battery, and that I could have covered with the aluminum wrapper from a stick of gum.

Totally forgot about the rims and tires.. shows how much I liked them. I think I'll wait 2 or 3 weeks and see if he still has it. Then low ball my best offer and see what happens from there

Re: 63 SWB $1500 a good deal?

im originally from silver springs nv and i got my 62 in an estate sale on a bill of sale out in yerington, you can get a title for it for a little under 100 bucks, i just did it and my dad did the same thing for his 66 lincoln all you need is 2 signatures and take it to the court house...

if you are good at haggling then use the no title to your advantage

Was at DMV about 2 weeks ago and had asked about the no title situation, only because there are sooooo many vehicles sitting out here in the sticks. She said basically what you said. She said you can take it to court and have a judge sign legal ownership over, from what I heard it's like $250. Other option is if you know a shop or tow yard, have them put a lien on it. Either was ya gotta pay

Just so much easier when they can just hand you a title and don't have to worry about the "what ifs"

which dmv did you go to? the only ones that i deal with are fallon and yerington, i know that reno and carson told me the same thing, what you need to do is set up with the current owner a vin check through the lyon county sheriffs office if it comes back good, haggle then buy then go to the dayton court house and get the paperwork, keep the sellers # as you will need them to sign the papers. then take it back and have the judge sign it off, this will cost about $65. then take that paperwork to the dmv in yerington and tell them you need to get a title, this should cost no more than $30...

the biggest thing though is the vin check while it is still in their hands because if it comes back stolen than its their a$$ not yours
