Pink wires

83 chevy carbureted. Dual gas tanks. Wiring from scratch. Almost finished. How do I connect the fuel gauge to the dual tanks? I think it has something to do with the pink wires. I don't understand. I am technical I just can't get my head around how it's wired with the selector switch. Does the sender work on resistance? How do the wires hook to the selector valve?

Re: Pink wires

Ray, this is not as complicated as it appears to you. Your right in that it's the pink wires. Forget about the dash switch, it dosen't directly change which tank is being read, BUT, it is responsible for the position of the selector valve under the truck which is responsible for which tank is being read. The dash wire (from the guage) goes to the selector valve. There are 2 more wires that go to either tank sending unit from the valve. When either tank is selected, the valve connects that sender to the dash wire. The selector acts like a single pole double throw switch. Each tank sending unit is a variable resistor, values are O ohms for full and 92 for empty. These values may change but only by a little. Hope this helps, jim

Little stuff left to do is mount winch, wet sand & buff out and build belly pan\running boards. Body work takes lots and LOTS of beer!!!! God, Guts and Guns made America and God, Guts and Guns will preserve it! The worst thing you could do is get into my sights, but that don't matter, you'll never know it, cause you'll never hear the shotJim or Paladin whichever you choose.
