Please help! 305 TBI problems

Ok, I had a couple threads in the engine forum. Here's the short rundown. Engine is a 305 TBI in a 95 GMC.

I was passing a car and it died and thats it. Over the past couple months I found this out and replaced them. The coil and ignition module, then found out I have a thing called a "coil pick up" so I replaced it. That was like $20 MSD coil replacement, $8 coil pick up, and $43 module. Then it ran if I poured gas in the TBI, checked wires and injectors and it was a weak fuel pump so I dropped the tank on my parts truck for a swap in my blazer tank (used just the motor). Now, it was blowing EMC-B fuse so fuel pump again lol. Tried and tried and took it to the shop, $100 later they chased all the wires and said the ground to the pump was wired wrong and they bolted the bed down and it hasn't blown in 2-3 miles around town, it was before a 100 yards or with the key on it would blow. Now when the truck left there it cut out and backfired. It would run bad and about die, then smoothe out for 5 feet only to crap out again. The next day I pulled the cap and the rotor bug was loose and it ate the copper coil up to where it was flat. Left this out, not sure how to add it back in lol. After I swapped the coil pick up I got a bad lope so used a free dist. a buddy gave me so it's a complete used module and coil pick up now. Anyways I replaced the cap knowing surely that was the bad miss, WRONG! it still missed and won't idle. Now the shop timed it and the cap and rotor bug is new.

So, I'm totally lost as one can possibly get. I didn't want to drop $100 plus tax on a new dist. because I dropped $50 on the coil pick up and module and the new dist. has them in it lol but I think the used dist. is bad. Here's why the origional one made it lope, I missed a spacer and it was jumping, never ran enough to hurt anything but I thought it was in the dist. not my fault I missed something. I also made the mistake of knocking the little magnetic ring with the 8 points and now it fits loose on the shaft. The used one is out and the coil pick up looks bad so I can replace it but I broke the rusty magnet on it's shaft. I'm not wanting to spend $100 but I bet that's the problem, there's not much left if anything at all, it's all new.

Is there anything I'm missing here? Sorry so long, meant to be short lol. I'll be more careful with the dist. from now on but on the good side if this happens again I have the extra parts and I could swap it all on the side of the road I bet lol. I could pull the dist. and replace the parts and time it also lol. Is it strange that I hate the truck but I love it?

Re: Please help! 305 TBI problems

Thanks man, I forgot I had this posted lol. I've since let the truck set broke down. I have yet to get in trouble for it sitting at my house in town but I give it time and it will. I'm thinking it's over a couple months now but it has moved twice so it helps I think. I think guys either get tired of the questions or tired of helping. Maybe they don't notice it posted who knows. Next couple weeks I'll try a dist., it was $94 with tax and a core. I priced it local in my town and it was $114 and the little magnet which comes pressed on the shaft was $92. If the whole thing is $22 more you'd be stupid not to do that. So, I'll go to a larger city and get the whole dist. which is $94 and be done. Hopefully that's it. Bad thing is I paid $43 for the module and $8 for the coil pick up and the new dist. can't be bought without the module. Oh well if it works then I'm out just $200ish which won't be too bad and I'll have a spare module. If this doesn't fix it then, well, I don't wanna talk about it. I'm fixing my '67 at the moment anyways lol.

Re: Please help! 305 TBI problems

Sounds like you just need to break down and get a new distributor to me best of luck with it going in without any problems like last time lol. If you get a new one in and still have problems let us know. Might have a few other ideas for ya.
