It's just the ecoat. Used to be a light grey greenish color, now a days all of them use black for the most part.
Gel coat? You looking for a GM boat?

Perhaps the word you are thinking of is "ELPO" - which is the name of the electrostatic applied primer.

I think early on it was grey or green, but it has been black for a long, long time.

GM had primer issues remember? The paint falls off...my 90 did. And WAY over priced.
