New Truck with a quick question

Hey guys I've been lurking around the sight for awhile now doing a bunch of learning as I was shopping for a new truck. Well I finally found a clean 86 Chevy K10 that I was able to pick up for a good price. Like any new vehicle it has some things that I would like to upgrade or replace. I am still deciding whether I will keep it stock height with the current wheels or throw a mild lift on with some larger tires.

My first question though is if anyone has a source for the plate in the inner fender that I have pictured below. I have searched high and low and either my google skills suck or they are really hard to find. This is the only place on the entire truck with any significant rust.

Well I look forward to becoming a contributing member of this forum and learning new things along the way.

That is part of the wheelhouse. To my knowledge you can not buy it separately.

As far as I know, you need a whole new inner fender. Mine are rusting in that exact same spot. Mine are cheap Taiwanese-made pieces though.

Yes. that's just the way the inner fender is made. If you want to replace that one section, you have to replace the entire wheel well.

Re: New Truck with a quick question

I made my own patch, out of a piece of stainless I had laying around.

You can see it in my build thread, linked below (page 11, post 269).

Re: New Truck with a quick question

Well it looks like I am going to be doing some fabricating, the rest of the inner fender is in perfect shape so I cant really justify replacing the whole thing. I can't believe this part isn't sold separately, sounds like something alot of people would be interested in.

Dman, that lift looks really good on your truck. That is the look that I would be going for. Are those Mickey Thompson classic IIs and what size tire are you running there.

Thanks for the replies.

Re: New Truck with a quick question

not sure what the brand is but they are very similar to the mickeys if not the mickeys...i took them in on a trade for a cheap wire welder, the tires are the bfg's mud terrains and they are 35 12.50 15, love them...pretty quiet...and ride good....they were 750 bucks brand new

Re: New Truck with a quick question

That patch is rusted out on just about every one of these trucks. i have a pair of inner fenders on one of my parts trucks and they are rusted in the same spot but mint everywhere else. its a shame to have to replace good gm metal with cheap stuff due to that little spot.
