Re: GM 4.2 has anyone done it?
Turbo has been done in the Colorado/Canyon platform, I think there is a whole kit for it available
That said, haven't seen one in a truck but I've thought about it - they're a phenomenal motor.

Re: GM 4.2 has anyone done it?
Didn't GM build a straight 5 cylinder and put it in the trailblazer some years back? Or is this the 4.2?

Re: GM 4.2 has anyone done it?
4.2 is the 6 cylinder
3.5/3.7 is the 5 cylinder I think what holds people back from doing the 4.2 swap is the fact that they can get and install a 4.8 or 5.3 for about the same money. |

The electronics on the 3.5/3.7/4.2 inlines is ALOT more complicated compared to the LS series of engines.

Re: GM 4.2 has anyone done it?
Turbo's have been done. I think one guy did one in a 66 chevy two. The eletronics are a lot more coplacated also as said above the atlas platform is what the General calls them the 2.8 4- 3.5 3.7-5 and the 4.2-6 . Are good motors all but not without their problems. The wiring would probably double the cost of a ls buiuld and them there is the oil pan. on some models [4x4] the front differentail goes thru the oil pan. I'm sure custom pans could be had from someone but there again is more cost. Jim

Re: GM 4.2 has anyone done it?
I have thought of building a Nova with a 4.2L in it (turboed eventually too) but haven't gotten there.
I was doing some looking into it, and the 4.2L really don't get any better gas mileage than the 5.3L (in a trailblazer) so I was kinda disappointed about that. I thought it my be a more "economical" engine. However, I think it would definatly add to the uniqueness factor. Especially if it was in an original 6 cylinder car/truck. It will be many years until I get around to building a nova though. My next build is going to be a 6 cylinder though....but a 5.9L cummins in a suburban |
