Help: 700r4 Troubles

Asking this for a friend. Its a 79 Chevy Shortbed.

Quote:

Ok, dropped my TH350 and replaced it with a 700r4. Swap went fine, but I am having shifting issues, TV cable has been adjusted and re adjusted, I am pretty certain it is where it needs to be. TCI lockout converter installed.

I have reverse, and first all the time, I have 2nd and 3rd for a stop light or two, then they go away, rarely have the OD 4th gear. I can readjust the TV cable and get 1,2,3, and 4, but 2,3,4 go away after a mile or so. readjust, then they come back for a mile or two, then go away again....
also, shifts are nice, not soft and stacked, they are spread about where they should be.

Hope this is enough info to get some feedback.

Pulling my hair out over this...

ANY ideas???

Several ideas, did you just rebuild it? If so, the anchor pin on the band might have missed the hole in the band. If you had the valve apart, sometimes the valves stick even though you might have cleaned them well. When I put mine back together, it was the TV sticking. Pull the cable loose at the carb, and yank it quickly a few times, sometimes that will get it unstuck.

You may want to look this over http://www.rowand.net/shop/tech/auto...issionswap.htm

I'm planning that conversion but with an inline six. From what I gather the cable pressure curve is very sensitive to the operation of the tranny.

To answer a previous post, I have not rebuilt it, but i have added the following:

1. B&M shift improver kit
2. TCI lockup converter
3. possibly going to add a "corvette" servo
4. new fluid, filter, and gasket.
5. new TV cable

any thoughts??
