Sensitive steering, adjustment ?
Ok guys I just went from 275/60/15 8" wheels all the way around to a 235/70/15 6.5" wheel up front and 275/60/15 8" wheel in the rear. On the way to work tonight the steering was so sensative that I felt like I was driving a bad Nascar setup. I know that I do not have as much wheel or meat up front. Is'nt there a way I can tighten up the steering box worm gear ? Thanks for any of your help.
PT

Re: Sensitive steering, adjustment ?
You can adjust the steering gear by loosening the jam nut and put a allen wrench in the adjuster stud and turn it, But hold the nut with a wrench while your turning the stud then hold the stud while re-tightening the nut.
![]() Only adjust in 1/8 turn increments until you get any slack out, Also make sure to keep your hands/fingers OFF the steering wheel on first start-up after each adjustment. If you go too far the wheel can spin abruptly on fire up and break bones. Quote:

Re: Sensitive steering, adjustment ?
Which way do you turn clockwise to tighten and counter clockwise to loosen. How much do you turn just kinda turn a little drive and make adjustments from there.
Thanks PT

Re: Sensitive steering, adjustment ?
Yes..... Tighten to remove slack loosen to create slack, Only move 1/8 of a turn at a time with the engine off. Keep hands away from steering wheel then re-start and test drive.

Re: Sensitive steering, adjustment ?
Ok I just read the bottom of your post. I may let a buddy of mine do it. I think he has done a few before. My luck I will be at the hospital or will have my truck driving like a dozer.
Thanks PT
