What kind of coils/dist./wires is everyone running? As far as brand goes and such, and is an MSD 6A box really worth the money?? Thanks guys.

Mine is basically all stock, but a long time ago I got tired of messing with points, so I dropped in a used GM HEI. I kept the old distributor though; not likely to toss any OEM parts!

I have an HEI in my truck with Accel module, Accel super coil, and Taylor wires with Autolite platinum plugs. I have great spark. Alot of people run MSD and are happy with it. You can do a lot of fine tuning for racing with different chips.

on my truck (straight 6) - I currently have stock points, but soon i'll be putting an HEI & MSD spiralcore 8mm wires on it. on my commuter belair (327) i'm running factory HEI with an accell cap & rotor & MSD 8mm sprralcore wires. on the belair, the stock hei is plenty for me & I find works good enough. I've never had an msd box but mabe one day-i'd get the 6al for the revlimiting extras.

I have Accel and it has been perfect. Screw points and all the problems that go with them. Technology is a good thing!

Stock GM HEI, Borg Warner cap & rotor, and Taylor Hi-Energy plug wires.

I would love to buy a brand new MSD HEI, but the $329 price is pretty damn steep....i think my original GM HEI is about worn out, so i will try a brand new Mallory HEI sometime in the future.

i have tried the aftermarket hi-po distribs, have had more trouble with those. never had trouble with the stock hei. so for me id get the stock one. cheap, easy to find, lots of parts around

The 72 Nova listed in your sig would probably benefit more from the MSD than your truck.If the Nova runs good with the stock HEI why wouldn't your truck?

Aftermarket vendors have a pointless conversion for the stock distributor. Retains the stock look while eliminating the troublesome points. I recommend checking the web sites of the vendors listed on the home page of this board.

Class of 69---Are you referring to the Pertronix Conversion? That's what I'm running in my '68 with a 250. I went and bought some cheap Xact wires from Advanced Auto, because my Accel 8.8mm wires were too long. (they came off my old 327) The Pertronix conversion is great, I couldn't be happier. Their setup fits right underneath the stock cap. I'm running an old Accel Super Stock Coil, and AC Delco plugs. I've heard good things about the MSD 6AL box and the MSD 8.5mm wires. The 6AL box has the built in rev limiter.

yellow72custom- I just put a Mallory HEI on my new engine. It comes with the coil. I got it locally for $139. It is much better than the old points that was on there. I like it a lot.

GM HEI, Jacobs cap and rotor, Crane adjustable vac advance, Msd coil in the cap, MSD 6A and 8.8 mm Accel wires. Let's just say you don't want to get zapped.....it would really hurt.

if you have the extra cash, the MSD stuff is worth the money. My "play money" is done for a while, so I am running a Pertronix Ignitor & coil in a recurved points dist. The setup works nice, so it will nodoubt stay in the 69 for a while....MSD would be my 1st choice tho

pertronix igniter 1 here .... im very happy with it ... i haven't regapped by plugs yet or changed my wires...im running 7.5mm autolites ...and suggestions on these 2 subjects after converting to pertronix ......thanks
