My '72 chevy 4x4 project truck

i just recently inquired a 1972 chevy k-10 long bed with a plow from my uncle. It has 188000 miles on the orignal 292 straight 6. It came stock wit the 3 speed on the tree, but someone else put the a granny 4spd in it. ive already replaced the floor boards and rocker panels. but still have plenty of work to do to it. I not up on my 70s pick ups, so of anyone has any knowledge or helpfull tips, i'd really love to hear them.

thank you, MnstrRebl

Re: My '72 chevy 4x4 project truck

sounds good ! is that a short bed ? or a long ? hard to tell in the pics, either way i say lift it and put on some 35"s. these trucks look nice with a lift imo.... wish i had a 6" lift on my 93Z71 . anyway it looks like a nice truck !

Re: My '72 chevy 4x4 project truck

alright fellahs. i did some work to the old girl this weekend. i painted the floorboards, put the stock front bumper back on, i put an 80's blazer steering wheel and buick hurst bench seat in. (its only a temp seat though)

and rustbucket its a long bed. ive been thinking bout a lift. but my daily driver(04 chevy 1500) already has a 4.5 in lift. so i not sure if i wanna build another lifted truck or not.

Re: My '72 chevy 4x4 project truck

Thats cool, you never want too many of the same thing, ive had this problem with lowered trucks. It's difficult to take a bagged silverado hunting (i know from experience) good thing i didnt kiil or i would have had to drag it a long ways to the gate of our property.. i dont have a lift on any of mine but i imagine stretching the old legs up would get tiring if all of your rides were that high. I had to keep my grandpa running boards on the Z71(from PO) while the wife was prego so she could get in, but ditched them after the baby. Either way restored or lifted that is a special truck, we have alot . i mean alot! of 2wd long beds in OK, I havent seen many 4wd's around or 2wd short beds, the short bed 2wds go for big money and the obvious route. But never really seen too many 4x4 in this body chevy truck. Can't wait to see what you do with it , i'm sure it will be sweet !

Re: My '72 chevy 4x4 project truck

A plow would be good down here about 1 week a year but I rather like kickin in the 4 wheel and having fun in the snow!! while lauging at the people in their little FWD cars stuck in the snow. Then I pull them out in my horrible gas guzzler. It is so much fun having a 4X4 !!

Re: My '72 chevy 4x4 project truck

Haha! O ya for sure! its wicked funny to see people up here freak out about the snow and then i just drive through the snow bank in 2wd in my black chevy. But yea im just thinkin bout a straight up restro with a little bit of up grades nothing to intense. Ive also been thinkin since its 4wd and it has that nice tall stance id just thow on some 20's or 22's. But not quite sure what yet. im just gonna fix and get it road legal for now. Then start playing around with it.
