Stock plug wire set
I'm converting my '70 suburban from HEI back to stock single points--yeah, go back and read that again--but am unsure of where to get a wire set that will fit properly. The engine is out now, it is basically stock with ALL of the stock clips and looms. I know I will have to cut and crimp on one end. My concern is that to run them properly they have to be very long, and in this day and age we never seem to get any extra material. Any recent sets I have bought included some very short wires for the back cylinders that definitely won't work with a stock application here. Skinny black wires are preferred. Any help appreciated.
I know about Pertronix, etc. I'm going to use points. |

Re: Stock plug wire set
I would look into maybe a '66 Corvette.
NAPA carries MPW 2821, which is routed below the manifolds and, I think, were pre-HEI. No promises but that is where I would start. |

Re: Stock plug wire set
There are companies that make the exact stock wires that will route in the stock location which is under the manifolds and the fronts actually come up and through the motor mount pad. The wires have the correct date codes and are labeled as original- Packard wire. I have used these twice, once on my factory bb 71 (which has the correct hoses etc, etc) and on my 4x4. I can post pictures if you would like and I will check on the company as well. The wires are expensive and are not the generic parts house wires. Expect to pay from $65-$80 for them. I will post pictures later this morning.

Re: Stock plug wire set
I've had fine luck with most any good brand of stock wires. Borg Warner is who I've been using the last few years. They go up under the manifolds and fit the factory looms.

Re: Stock plug wire set
I would get genuine Delco wires-try Advance, O'Rieleys, or GM dealer. Next choice would be MOROSO Blue Max wires. All would be precut and ready to go. I do not like crimping the ends.

Re: Stock plug wire set
Thanks guys, I will explore all these options. I have had such bad luck at the generic stores that I'm always leery. I'm sure they have the set I need, the question is whether the guy behind the counter can find them. And $65-$80 wouldn't be too much to pay, especially if they were fitted. This is not a technically correct resto, but I want it to be stock-appearing.
