found something cool before sending Highlander

When we "field dress" a parts truck we sell the obvious good stuff and it sits around for awhile until we decide to send it to the happy hunting ground. We usually do one last check removing screws clips etc. We were ready to load a 72 lwb Highlander and I thought we might as well save the original spare to have another nice 5 bolt wheel. To our surprise it had the original General G78 15 Tire. Will not work on Jason's show but will be a nice touch for Jason's 72 swb bb survivor.

Thats a very neat find, ....I have a unused spare out of a 1972 1/2t 4x4 suburban, the wheel and tire were always covered and there has never been a lug nut on the wheel, its very cool!!

Are original unused spares desirable?

Re: found something cool before sending Highlander

I gave the original spare tire from my 1985 suburban to a friend last year and even after 25 years it went on his van fine and is still on there 10k miles later....lol

definitely not recommended though but he was very low on funds

WOW!! That must have been a Pretty Cool Suburban Joe....I have a transfer case shift knob that looks NOS...it came from a 1972 1/2 TON 4X4 Suburban and always had a golf club cover over it since new.

Re: found something cool before sending Highlander

Paul,,did it have the indintation in it from being screwed up tight against the frame for so many years? I had a 76 Vette and when I took the spare down it had this dent in it and I wondered if it would ever come out if I did use it.. Of course it was to small to use with the other tires I had ..

I'm interested in this question too. I believe mine may be original.

Re: found something cool before sending Highlander

Joe that is not hi jack, your input is always appreciated. Larry, yes it has a permanent indention which means it wiil have no value as a usable tire but it will make a neat addition to a unrestored survivor.Brian the value in this is if you are into original.
