A/C Pump stays running when A/C is off

I have a 1983 Short bed Scottsdale. Its a 4 speed 4x4.
It used to be a 250l4 now it has a 350v8.
As the title states, it stays running even though the switch is off.
Another weird thing is if I have the blower fan running and turn the truck off, it stays running for about 3 seconds after the ignition is off.
I have to unplug the AC pump because it will run the battery down.
any idea why thats happening?

My compressor was running pretty much all the time when the truck was running. I replaced the dash controls with a set of new ones, and the problem went away. I can't say for sure that is what is wrong with yours, but it solved my problem.

OK. I replaced the dash controls and it fixed it.
Seems odd that the inside switches were making the battery ground terminal melt. You would think that the wires on the inside of the truck would melt first.

Thanks.

Electricity always takes the path of least resistance, hence the battery ground.
