Keep off the grass!

Drove my truck in some tall grass last week. The grass wrapped around the pinion on the rear end. I thought no big deal.
Big deal! The grass ate my pinion seal! I had to change it today. I also have to degrease the bottom of my bed, my axle housing, and my spare tire.

I could not believe how much grass was in there!

Re: Keep off the grass!

yep, I found out mud will do the same thing. Took my k20 burb thru the mud pit a few weeks back. A couple of days later I notice a fair amount of diff fluid leaking from the pinion seal. Got the new seal, cover gasket and some gear oil. Pulled the yoke and found a nicely formed washer between the yoke and seal, comprised of 100% east tx mud. Changed the seal, pulled the cover, sprayed it out very good with brake cleaner, replaced the cover and refilled the oil. Not planning another trip thru the mud pit anytime soon.

As for the grass, I never saw it wrap around the pinion like that, but will also make a mental note. I have seen cat's catch grass on fire tho. I am very careful of where I stop or park while on the farm or anywhere in high grass.
