Brake Booster vacuum hose Location

Im converting to power brakes and was hoping for a description and pic of where the check valve booster line (vacuum hose) connects to. Im assuming that it connects to the intake manifold. Not sure where or how. Stock V8 350.

Thanks in advance
Ryan

Re: Brake Booster vacuum hose Location

I guess you could do it on the intake but on a stock 350 I think it goes on the main vac on the back of the Q-jet.

If you engine is all stock, there will be a plug on the back of the carburetor that you remove and install a fitting in it's place.

Back, base of the carb is correct. There should be a stronger vacumn signal there as you have pull from all 8 cylinders rather than just 1 or 2 from the intake runners.

Re: Brake Booster vacuum hose Location

factory stock on the ones i've worked on has been a vaccume tree located in the manifold dead center a few inches in back of the carb// the pvc has been hooked to the carb port

that's what is shown in the factory assembly manual too

One more thing...mine has this filter mounted inline of the hose running from the carb to booster, apparently it is to filter out the gas fumes to prevent them from perishing the rubber inside the booster.

Re: Brake Booster vacuum hose Location

That's not a filter, it's a check valve to hold vacuum in the booster when the engine's vacuum signal falls too low for any reason.

No the part i'm holding Tx, I was told that was a filter on here some time ago when I needed to identify the part for replacement....had a quick look and it seems to show the check valve as the object in the booster itself.

The link shows the exact same part as is in my booster.

Re: Brake Booster vacuum hose Location

The part in your hand, duh. I immediately looked at the end of the hose and said check valve.

Carry on.
