Lifting points to remove motor/trans

I'm getting ready to pull my 292/sm465 & can't figure out where to hook the lift chains as there's no lifting loops/straps on the motor. Should I remove the intake/exhaust manifolds & use some of those bolt holes?

Also, my truck is all stock & the trans xmember is still riveted in the frame. Can the motor & trans be pulled together without removing the xmember first? I have removed the core support, grill & bumper to minimize lifting angles.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I've been using lift plates that bolt to the intake manifold in place of the carb for the last 20 years or so. EZPZ.

...and yep, you should be able to take the engine and tranny out together without removing the crossmember.

I've used them on SBC & BBC but didn't know you could on the I6 since the carb is a 1bbl & off to the side.

Seems I remember seeing lifting loops on either side of the head, one at the front and the other at the back. I remember them more often on the later in-lines, after GM started painting them corporate blue.

I unscrew one of the bellhousing bolts and screw the chain and bolt through the same hole backwards, from the front of the truck. The hole is threaded all the way through the block, right above the starter. Then the other end of the chain I replace the front intake/exhaust man bolt with a longer one.
