Bench Seat Question

I am looking for a little bench seat information. I bought a 71 GMC Sierra that came with an aftermarket seat in it. In an effort to make it look more original, I bought a bench out of a 69 Chevrolet from a junk yard.

So, my question is, are the 69 and 71 bench seats the same?

Thanks for any info.

Re: Bench Seat Question

67 72 bench's are all the same....

67 68 the back protion flips forward

69 72 the bench seats dont fip forward they just slide forward a little

so you bought a bench seat that is the first year of preforming like the 71 seat.

Re: Bench Seat Question

The one I just bought was $100 with good foam and an original cover that needs to be replaced.

Re: Bench Seat Question

The lower seat frames are actually a little different.
The seat/floor brackets are broke up like this:
67-68
69-70
71-72

They all fit the floor the same,... it's the attachment points on the seat frame that are different.

All you have to do to make one track fit a different seat is cut the rivets off the front bracket and flip them around.

Re: Bench Seat Question

It's amazing that changing out my '69 cab for a '68 cab, involves a few tweaks to get it all together. Main thing is the e-brake. Since I'm going to use a '98 Tahoe 2nd row seat....flipping the brackets ain't no biggee.

Re: Bench Seat Question

removing the screws to make the seat flip isn't always a good idea. It'll pull the vinal pff where it covers the brackets, and if you slide the seat forward, it'll lean back since it'll have nothing to keep it in the upright position except for leaning on the cab wall.
It works, but it's not perfect.

The rear bracket of the "seat side" is different.
(the part circled in red)

The first picture it the "tall" support of the 69-70 brackets.
The second picture (upside down of course) is the shorter, more curved,... 71-72 brackets.
They are totally different and will not interchange.
(ask me how I know,...)

The 67-68 version is different yet.
I would post a picture,... but I couldn't find a good one.

Re: Bench Seat Question

So it sounds like a 69 seat needs 69 brackets and sliders. I actually took all of it out of the junk yard, so I should be good to go?

If the brackets came with the seat, you will be fine.
I tried to bolt a set of 71-72 seat brackets to my 69-70, and that didn't work.
