Another Distraction!!!

Here while I was concentrating on my GMC my friends are trying to screw with me AGAIN. I'm being distracted from following the path of keeping the truck OEM as much as possible. They are talking about small blocks, brakes airbags and so on. Now one of my closest friends is trying to corupt me again with this offer. Again, it another free car, but as you know ther is no such thing as a free anything. I've had 3 ofr these that my friends called wonder wagons (It's a wonder that you can keep it running). Sitting 7 years in a stable.

I used to have one of those old Wagoneers, they were the cats meow for that time period, the engine was a POC and man did they suck fuel.........I would just sell it to someone who restores them.......

Re: Another Distraction!!!

I've had 3 of these. I had a 70 when I met my wife. We were on our first date with 2 other couples and the thing broke down and we had to push it out of the intersection. When I told her about this one she said that she didn't want to have to push anything any more. Just getting the interior fixed would cost about 2500 bucks. The AMC 360 is REALLY hard on gas and the ignition system always seems to be a problem. I told them I was going to pass on it. I would be better off with a suburban. Which is what I did with the 70 I sold it and got a 85 surburban, 3/4 ton 4x4 4spd stick dual air. I put 240K miles on it and only had to change the belt driven accassories. One of the best cars I ever owned

As you noted, free doesn’t always equal inexpensive. I worked with a guy that poured a ton of money into one of those and it always wanted more.

Re: Another Distraction!!!

that 360 is also known for oiling problems. the last 2 main bearing usually get burnt up. i will say i have always wanted one of these all the way down to the rockers. maybe one day. itll have a 350/350 combo in it though.

Re: Another Distraction!!!

My 64 had a 230 overhead cam six (Tornado six) and a single speed transfer case. I did a body off mod on it and put a 350/400 w/dana 20 transfer case. My 70 had a Buick 350 and a th350 with a dana 20 transfer case. All of them would run out of gas if you were going down a steep hill and you had a 1/4 tank of gas. The Chevy and the Buick worked the best. The A/C is marginal it looked like it was the prototype for the Vintage Air units being sold now. Not big enough for the size of the car.

Re: Another Distraction!!!

I have been eyeing those for a while, too. There is a guy that lives a few blocks from me that has a stable of them. Seems like everytime I go by, there are either more or at least different ones there. He has 3 or 4 that seem to be pretty constant, though. I like the woodgrain on the side; I do think they look tough with a little lift and bigger tires.
