Water temp sender question

I'm in the middle of rewiring my 350 with a brand new M&H engine wiring harness after finally managing to butcher out the rusted solid bolt from the firewall plug. Offering the harness up it don't seem to fit very well and then it struck me, it would fit better if the oil pressure switch was not where it is. Which side head should it be in? Its currently in the drivers side head but I can't see how with it there the wire will reach it. Should the switch be in the passenger side head as standard?

Re: Oil Pressure Switch question

The sending unit in the head is not for oil pressure. That is the one for water temperature.
You will find the oil pressure sender location in the back of the block near the distributor. That is the usual spot, but there is an alternate location on the side of the block just above the oil filter.

Re: Oil Pressure Switch question

Ah my mistake, thought it was the oil pressure sender. In which case the question still stands albeit which head should the water temp sender be in, drivers or passenger> I know the engine isn't original to the truck and may well have come from a car so its quite likely the heads have been off and the thing messed around with in the past.

Can a moderator please change the thread title to Water temp sender question please!

Re: Water temp sender question

Thats where it is, I must be routing the wires wrong as I can't seem to sort it out so it all fits neatly. The old wiring was so badly hacked aorund not one wire was original and I was missing the brake warning light switch wire, the backup lights, all the ignition stuff was cut out and bodged due to it having a mallory twin point dizzy with the coil mounted on the bulkhead. The wire to the water temp sender had I think four different colours of cable either twisted or soldered together! so I have no idea where stuff should be routed. If anyone can post a picture a standard firewall with all the wires in place I'd be grateful.
