58 apache newbie questions...

Okay so....

I have a 1958 Apache that has a good to go body and is a roller. It's all been rechromed has a big back window ,short box ,fleetside. The frame is all re painted the underside of the cab has been done. It has the original rear end and front end in it and brakes in it......it's been sitting in a garage for about 10 years. I am a 1964 to 66 guy and could use some help with the way to go for this thing. I don't want to do a complicated build right now just a simple brake upgrade on it....drop a v-8 and automatic tranny in it .

So here are my questions :
I don't dig the single line master cylinder concept so is there something that bolts in that i can split so i have a front brake and a rear brake line ? ( plan on leaving the drum brakes on it for now.

What do the engine mounts look like for a 58 ?.....It had a v-8 in but i have nothing anywhere under the hood to compare it too or see.. can i just buy them new ?..a picture of the stock v-8 mounts would be awsome to see(I have a brand new vortec sitting in the shop that's running a 4-barrel set up on it i am thinking of dropping in it)

I Have a turbo 350 or 400 thats new thats kicking around and want to drop that in....is there a bolt in cross member or do i just adapt what i have ?

See I built my dad a 65 thats in the paint shop right now ..lowered it... disc braked it, left the stock 283 in it, did the seat.....but it's a 4 speed and now his knee isn't what it used to be and he can't drive it.....So i just want to get this 58 together and let him drive it drive it for whats left of the summer and have some fun.I have to many other projects on the go to make this complicated...I just want safe.....fast to do ....and inexpensive....So please feel free to give me some input on any of the abouve subjects.

55-59 truck had front engine mounts bolted to 2 holes on each side of the timing cover. If your vortec has those hole then you can mount it in the stock position with stock mounts. If new motor doesn't have the holes in the front you need anafter market side mount kit.

Re: 58 apache newbie questions...

Okay that makes sence .....I wasn't sure it if was a front mount set up....I saw what could have been 2 mounts up front. So I will check the new block and then see if i can find the rest of the mount pieces.

If you go with an automatic you will have to remove the crossmember that the bell houseing sets on & put crossmembers under the engine & transmission.
