Bed wood interferes with frame rivets?
I'm re-doing the bed on my '67 stepside. The original pine I took out had dents in it from the rivets on top of where the coil springs are.
I'm now putting in some new oak. I'm reluctant to shim the bed upwards. Would grinding the rivets down a little be a better option?

Re: Bed wood interferes with frame rivets?
I don't believe I'd grind the rivets, as they are what holds the crossa members inside the frame. There are some rubber shims/bumpers that go between the bed cross members and the frame. They're about 2" square. Hope this helps?

These are for a short bed they also have them for long beds.....these will keep the wood off the rivets and space the bed so the body lines are lined up perfect.

Re: Bed wood interferes with frame rivets?
OK. I'll try the shims.
Does anyone know if trucks came from the factory with those shims? Thanks.

Re: Bed wood interferes with frame rivets?
That's been my experience also. That's why I don't understand how the shims help line up the body lines. It probably doesn't matter much on a step side...
