will a posi out of a 67 1/2 ton fit in a 71-72 1/2 ton

Will he need the axles too, or any other problems he may have? Thanks for any help, Randy

The differential itself will swap as long as they are both of the same "series" There are different units for the variation of gear ratios.
The axles are a different story though. There is a length issue. The newer axles are longer than the early ones, so that's a no-go.

This is not a simple bolt-in procedure though, you really need a pro to do this kind of installation. You can turn your parts into scrap quickly...

Randy....as Longhair mentioned, my understanding is that the carrier will swap in, but they need to grab the pinion gear too (ring and pinion gear should stay together), obviously like cdowns says, someone should look both gears over really good too, and replace/ rebuild if possible might as well replace all bearings and seals while they are there too....
