2010 colorado only gets 12-13 mpg
It has an inline 5 under the hood, granted it is pretty much only driven in town by my mom to and from her work which is like 5 minutes away. Shouldn't it be getting better than 12-13? any ideas on what the problem could possibly be, I just put a bottle of fuel injector cleaner in it for her and will calculate her mpg after i get back home from college this week. if that doesn't help i have no clue what is wrong with it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated by me and my mom haha thanks a lot Justin |

The short distance is what is killing the mpg's. When you do only in town short trips the gas mileage suffers.

Re: 2010 colorado only gets 12-13 mpg
5 minute drives aren't long enough for the truck to warm up good and get into closed loop and start properly controlling the fuel usage. The engine needs to get up into the 150ish range before this begins, by that time she's fixin to get out. Short distance driving can also be rough on a engine, condensation can begin to build in the crankcase as the engine never gets hot enough to burn it off.

I imagine it's pretty cold up there too. Is she letting it "warm up" for 5 to 10 minutes before taking off? With such a short drive letting it warm up every day could really be killing it too.
