Re: New Here...Just purchased a 1970 Chevy C20 Camper Special

To help with color decisions (which as mentioned, is a long way and many $$ down the road anyways) start looking at color combos now... day dream a little. You may find that the red is WAY too bright when in a black truck, you may find that the white looks too much like a fleet truck. Red on red looks good, but then you have to figure what shade of red... so then you start taking pics of every red car or truck that you see with your cell phone and put them on your computer and try to pic the red you like the best, and then remember what that car/truck was and you can get the code.
Thats how that stuff works in my head.
The bummer is, even after months and months of looking at colors and all that stuff, I still end up going flat black.

Thanks! It's fun to drive. I did more work on it: bled the brakes, did an oil change (my first one by myself...all a work in progress), wired it for a trailer, and put in a new steering wheel (not original, but wooden and pretty awesome...see picture attached). Next up: a new radiator, rebuilding the carb, and that's it for the moment. Always something to work on, it seems. But so far, I'm having a blast and learning a lot. I hope to have it restored by this time next year.

Cool! That wheel is my favorite aftermarket wheel...especially if you have woodgrain anywhere else on the truck (like your door panels)

Great starting point, looks solid.

Wow, that looks almost exactly like my '71 USED to.
Are those access doors in front of the wheel wells on the bed? Mine had that, I had to make up new bedsides because of them. (warped the crap out of them)

I would\am changing color. Just remember that you have to paint the inside also. Sanding the inside roof had\has to be the biggest P.I.T.A. ever. getting into all of those grooves is torture.

I hate carburators, especially Hollys, but if I had to use one I'd go Q-jet.

I'm not into the whole "keep it original" thing. I have a Longhorn C.S. which are supposed to be kinda rare, but I don't care, I'm building MY truck, and it needs some upgrades!!!

BTW: Love the steering wheel!! Might look for one for mine. Where did you buy it?

Had the same wheel in my Malibu, loved it. Post a pic of it in your truck when you get a chance.
