So I'm trying to figure out the reason the 86 K10 sbc 350 auto wont start. On Sunday my dad and I narrowed down to short in the harness going to the starter. It is/was routed between the exhaust manifold and block.

My question is does the harness look right to you guys? It has a wire going from the alternator down to the starter that is to short to go anywhere but between the manifold & block. Any problem with extending that routing it behind the block like my '87 so it wont melt and short out anymore?

get a 1 wire alt from napa and do away with all that mess...1 wire from alt to batt

I agree, but cash is tight right now, so I'm working with what I have.

Either make it work that way and wrap it up to protect it or extend it out to make it work for ya.

Done, and now it cranks over consistently.

Now I have a new problem. It won't light. On Saturday we got it started and it ran great for a few minutes, and then I shut it off. Dad wiggled the wires and it wouldn't start again. I figured no problem. Fix the wires and it will start right up and run again.

Wrong!

So today I fixed the wiring. Repaired the damaged starter leads and wrapped them in wire loom and heat tape. It would turn over, but no start. This truck has a harness similar to my '87 tbi, but much smaller. See the arrows in the photo. I didn't think about this potentially being my problem until I got home and this was the only shot I had of the firewall.

Does this mean I have ESC on this truck? Could it be causing the problem? Can it be removed? The guy that I got the truck from couldn't figure out why it wouldn't start and that's how I got it. It's a nice truck otherwise and I would really like to drive it.
