Factory Two-Tone Paint & 3rd Color Interior Questions?

I have a couple questions regarding the availabilty & rarity of trucks that came from the factory with a two-tone exterior scheme and then had a different color all together for the interior?....Though, I'm restoring a 1970 truck, these questions (if year specific) are geared around a 1967 model...as my first truck was a 67 and is indeed my inspiration behind my build!

1. Was it a special order to have a three color (int. & ext.) schemed truck?

2. How many different two-tone exterior combinations were available?

3. In a three color scheme what color were the door jambs?....and was the entire interior painted this 3rd color?

4. Were there additional colors available for the interior?....As I do not see a color on the color chip selector for this color:....anyone know what color this is?...could it be "FAWN"

Thanks in advance!
Dan

Re: Factory Two-Tone Paint & 3rd Color Interior Questions?

I work with a guy who is the original owner of his '67 LWB C-10. The main color of the body is silver, and the top is white. The interior is red vinyl. All of the interior paint is red, and the doors are red except for the outside of the door skin. He's had body shops tell him that it didn't come that way, but he bought it right before the '68's came out, right here in our town. I have a picture of it, but I know it doesn't show the distinctive paint that is on the doors.

Thats a cool truck....I like the unique colors....

See my old 67 which was all original and was schemed just like your describing....I have an old pic that shows that the door all but the outside skin (as you mentioned) was painted the interior color......My color scheme was: Vermillion Poly Exterior with a white roof and that silver/tan looking color (from the above pic) for the interior....Not sure above the cab side of the door Jamb....int. or ext. color...can't remember?

Any other insight on this subject would be appreciated!

Here is the only two pics I have of my old truck...I was thinking of maybe doing this color scheme on the 70 ??

Re: Factory Two-Tone Paint & 3rd Color Interior Questions?

In`67 there were two two-tones,top accent color and top/under moulding accent color.Interiors were a 3rd color on standard trim level as GM traditionally did in prior years. The upholstery in base trucks matched the interior paint.

Re: Factory Two-Tone Paint & 3rd Color Interior Questions?

I should have said the base models "only" had matching color paint & upholstery in a different color than exterior paint.Fancy trucks had a choice in interior colors and the interior paint, like 68-72 was the same as exterior.A CST could have everything the same color or a different upholstery color.
I just see a red X in the first post for some reason.

He's had it repainted once, maybe twice. He has two boys, both well past grown, who drove it to school and to college. It gets used, as he intended it to be used. Oh, he paid $1750 for it when he bought it and his wife nearly divorced him....or so he says.....because they didn't know how they were going to be able to make payments on it.

Re: Factory Two-Tone Paint & 3rd Color Interior Questions?

In 1967 Vermillion exterior could be ordered with Red or Fawn interior colors.

Fawn interior was available with every color option of exterior paint available.

Vermillion exterior did not come with a green or blue interior as an option.

There were 13 different available RPO two tone exterior paint options. 15 solid RPO paint options. Plus they would do special paint applications also.

Here is the correct paint line for 67's. The door jambs are exterior color, but when the door is closed, you can't see any of the exterior color in the cab.

Re: Factory Two-Tone Paint & 3rd Color Interior Questions?

my 67 sub was originally painted the 1968 50th anniversary gold color from what i have been able to find looking on here at gold paint colors, yah i know weird right (it said special piant on glovebox spid ) with a white roof and with fawn interior paint color. dont know about seat color though as none of the original seats were in it when i got it, and it also had been repainted several times before i had aquired it. but... their were still spots that were gold/fawn that never got painted or where the paint has chipped off showing the original paint

Re: Factory Two-Tone Paint & 3rd Color Interior Questions?

If you were to look at a Truck Data Sales Guide, you'd see that there were recommended colors for the interior relative to the exterior color, but the bottom line was that you could mix/match as you pleased. If you wanted a two-tone green paint combo and a black, or red, or green or black interior, it was your deal. If you were special-ordering it, it would be yours to pick up and pay for...so the dealership didn't care. They may have wondered about you, but that was it. If they were ordering it for the lot, they were more careful about the color combos.

Nowadays, the factory has taken that part of the equation out of the order process and limited the color combos to a spec sheet. Some (of course) have more latitude, than others.

Re: Factory Two-Tone Paint & 3rd Color Interior Questions?

What about the color of the ash tray in 67? All that I've seen in the salvage yards it is the same color of silver that is used on the cluster & glove box door accent.
