For a while I have planned to make one to look like the Indian Larry question mark logo.

So I ordered a cheap one I could hack up, cut out the center section [can use it elsewhere] and I dunno. Would it be dumb to put in a + and make it a gun sight cross hair ??? its speakin to me when I look thourgh that hole.

Re: custom hood ornament

Pretty wicked idea, but with the crosshair, I would dechrome it and paint it a satin black or gunmetal. Trevor

Re: custom hood ornament

Oh yea I would black it out, whole car is pretty much blacked out cepts for a few places. Use to have chrome all over the place, till I hosed it down with black last summer.

I got a skull one right now but its gonna be a bit to much, I got a full size skull on the dash facing out the window, and I plan to put a big skull in cross-bones on the hood. Just seemded like to much and the question mark sounded like a good idea but the cross hairs is callin me.

Re: custom hood ornament

Though I am worried how it will respond to a couple of quick mig tack welds.

That pot metal feels heavy, but its not metal

Learned that early on.

It turns to liquid around 500F the temp I heat clean most parts before powder coating. Did some anchor cletes off a ford for a friend and they turned to goo on me.

Re: custom hood ornament

Almost had a 2nd idea, got these flat mount surface skulls, didn't want to glue them together just for a test fit so I wrapped some ribon around it.

Problem would be there is not enough area touching the secure it in well, wind or a touch would knock it out.

Re: custom hood ornament

Check out a product called Q-Bond.

We "glued" a 1/2 ton rotor to a steel pole with nothing but this stuff.........works wonders.

Re: custom hood ornament

Killed two birds with one stone kinda.

went ahead and put in the cross hairs and it just didn't look how I wanted, dunno how that is possiable but it is.

Thinking, if I remove the cross bar and then clamp the two skull half together and drill a hole down the middle, that will give allot more area to glue it in place.

Re: custom hood ornament

Attempting to make an abdomen / butt like a real spider, its also need to breath. That tiny 6-1/2 is small. In the butt area I drilled 3 large holes in the lid over the back two. Using some 1/4in foam on a roll.

slow goin like building a model, lots of gluing/wait.

Re: custom hood ornament

OK did some gold leafing, not as nice in the end as you lose some of the color of the varigated gold when cleared over, but you gotta or it will turn worse color then that.
