Heater hose/heater delete?

If I am not interested in having a working heater can heater hoses be removed and fittings plugged w/o affecting anything else?Currently there is no a/c.It would offer a cleaner looking engine bay.Thanks.

Re: Heater hose/heater delete?

I once ran a 5/8" to 3/4" plastic adapter between the hoses when I removed the heater box...no problems that I could tell. I don't think plugging them would be an issue.

Re: Heater hose/heater delete?

I used to work at a service station.....yeah it was a gas station where they had us young guys who came out to the car and pumped the gas while you sat in the seat. We'd clean windshields, check/air your tires, check your oil, transmission fluid, and tell you if you needed new wiper blades.

One of the extra things we got to do was deal with stuck thermostats and change light bulbs while you waited.

If you had a heater hose leaking, we'd take the larger hose, usually a 3/4-inch ID hose, and cut it to a shorter length, take the smaller diameter hose off, and attach the larger hose to the nipple...then tighten the hose clamp. I don't know if we ever did charge more that a dollar to do that for anyone. If you were a cute girl....it was usually free, so you could take it home and let your dad know we helped you out.....windshields were usually cleaned extra well for those girls, too.

If you want it to look clean, remove the two bibs and install 1/2 npt plugs in their place to completely do away with the hoses all together.
