350/350t engine dies when put in gear and it chirps the tires sometimes
I have been working on this truck for 2 years and finally got it running when i put it into gear it will die. sometimes it will chirp the tires. after you get it going it feels like it is shifting late. it idles okay i have messed with the timing, tuned the carb 1406, checked for vacuum leaks. but have fixed nothing. if anybody can help please do i just want to drive it.

Stock convertor in the tranny!! Too low a stall can cause it to die when put in gear. Shifting funny!! Kick down hooked up?

yes it is the stock converter. the kick down is hooked up. it has double hump heads with 2.02's. little cam but dont know the size was in it to begin with.

Kick down adjusted right! Shifting like that is due to higher line pressure in the tranny.

did you set the timing by ear or with a light?

The th350 in my '39 Ford Coupe does the same thing but only in reverse. After it warms up it is fine, until it sets and cools off. I haven't found anyone that has been able to tell me what the problem is without tearing it apart. It is a rebuilt tranny won at a car show... LockDoc
