Got very good news this weekend

Reached a bit of a milestone on the weekend
I had my frame inspected and it passed with no issues what so ever.

It’s just the first of the inspections but at least I can assemble the truck without worrying if the inspector will question the frame integrity when I go for the full safety at the end… especially on these trucks where it would be near impossible to fullly check it with the cab on.
I know lots of people who would have skipped this and even recommended that I don’t call at all and skip the inspection entirly, I could have done it but it didn’t cost me anything and will give me documented proof that everything was done properly if I ever decide to sell it. Also I wasn’t worried about the quality of work and just having it done at the proper stages will make it easier later.

I’d like to thank the folks that posted pics (or sent me pics,) tips and advice on doing the Camaro subframe and also those that have posted the specs/ drawing/ measurements for a 55 frame and Camaro subframe.
When I showed the guy that I took everything into consideration and had the necessary measurements for him to check the frame, everything went very smooth. Also having pics of other builds and about 600+ pics of my own helped too. The guy was somewhat impressed with how I did the subframe… I guess the novelty wears off after you see a few hundred cars, but we did sit around talking for a bit and he showed me a ton of pictures of the horror shows he gets in.

now I just have to reassemble it, do some body work, paint, wireing ect ect.

Looks great and I'd say that taking the step to have it inspected at this point is a plus in your favor.

It's good to see someone doing things by the numbers and doing it right instead of trying to slip things past as seems too prevalent these days.

I just came from a car show with my boys. We love our old Chevy trucks. There was a '52 Chevy truck that was there and VERY well done on the outside. The frame, however, made me wonder. The truck appeared to be stock height with a Camaro subframe. It had these TOWERS welded on the front for the front cab mounts that were not very well made in my opinion. They really looked like an after thought.

You have done an incredible job and I congratulate you for taking the proper steps in having your frame inspected and documenting your process.

and thanks again Indian113... having the pics you sent was helpful in showing at least one method considered common practice, the guy likely has seen it all before but still it was helpfull. the first thing he noticed was the clip and the weld he said "well that aint gonna break" I add in my comment that there was 31' of weld holding it together (15.5' x2 passes)
I've heard of horror stories from people that the inspectors are A holes (the story always starts with my buddies cousin got screwed over because bla bla bla)
I accualy found the guy to be pretty cool, he was a rodder too so it wasn't like talking to some burecrat he told me the next steps and what paperwork I need from whom.
Most cars I've done/ worked on are just repair/ replace things to OEM and send for a safety so it can be registered and insured. not a big deal because it's stock everything (no creativity needed) A complete frame mod and re-engineering is a different story

Some of the pics he showed me were just funny and horrible at the same time, he gave me a link for a site that shows pics from the cops for things they have found on safety stops, if I find anything good I'll post it
