Tailgate Decals
I was going to paint my tailgate letters in a flat or satin black, but then I I that the sell decals on ebay. I figure that might be an easier way to go, but I was wondering if the letters are gloss or have a more satin finish and if any of you guys have used them before and have any pictures? Thanks.

Re: Tailgate Decals
I used them on my stepside and they are a semi gloss in appearance. Sure is alot easier than trying to tape off around those letters!

Re: Tailgate Decals
Cool, I will just use them then. I was even thinking if they had been gloss in color that I would get a set to use to mask off the letters before I painted the rest of the tailgate.

Re: Tailgate Decals
while we are on the subject has anyone used gold leaf lettering before on their tailgates or other parts of the body?, just wondering being a firefighter myself, thought it would look cool?.

Re: Tailgate Decals
best way to do it, though its a PITA, is to paint the letters then paint the tailgate. It turns out really nice.

Re: Tailgate Decals
what did you use to cover the letters up before final paint, painters tape? I was going to do that on mine, but then I found out about the decals. I wondering if I could put the decals on there as masking tape and then take them off after the final color is put on?

Re: Tailgate Decals
I can't really tell from the picture but is there much of a shine to the letters?

Re: Tailgate Decals
Not quite a true flat black but certainly not a high gloss.I think there were 12 bucks or so,give em' a try.Heck you would have way more that that in it masking and painting. The grille letters were easier to get all the wrinkles out,the tailgate size took alittle more patience.

Re: Tailgate Decals
Well I decided to paint the letters in first, then put the stickers on and paint the rest of the tailgate. The first two letters I pulled off were the "T" and the "E" and it looked great. Then I had problems with all of the letters except for "V". I am just going to get myself another set of letters and then just stick them on top.
I do like how it is going to look though.

Re: Tailgate Decals
I bought a set of the white letters and sprayed them silver and clearcoated them to match the bumper. They turned out pretty nice and have been on it for the past two years.

Re: Tailgate Decals
I have been thinking about this, but I would love to find some that were cut out of stainless with an adhesive back. I think it would look killer with the chrome trim and chrome sport bumper on the rear of mine.
