79 Trans AM
I've been reading about Flat-Tappet Cam-compatible Oils and starting wondering about my parents TA. As stated above its a '79; it has a 403 Olds thats factory. Do we need to run special oil in it also? And cuz we are all pic hungry I've attached 1.

Re: 79 Trans AM
From personal experience, I have not had any trouble running modern oil in older stock engines. It is when you get into the higher lift and spring pressures of modified enines that you need the ZDDP additives. I lunched a 355 back in the late 90's before everyone knew what the culprit was. The cam went flat about 3k miles after I rebuilt it, ruining the crank. Luckily the piston skirts were OK. I had the crank turned and put a new cam and lifters in it. It is still on a stand, as I installed a 383 with a roller cam in the mean time.
