Re: 56 or 57
date on the door plate, or decode the vin is the only way to be sure. I don't think that there was a change in trim or badges between them

Re: 56 or 57
The hoods and grills are different.
The 57 has 2 ridges on the hood like the cars have and the 56 hood is flat. The 57 grill sits on the front of the truck where the 56 grill sets back in. 57 56 Kim |

Re: 56 or 57
grills are different, but I've never heard of them having different hoods before...

Re: 56 or 57
I think the truck I found is a 56 , It has correct looking grill and a flat hood, i have to take a close look this weekend , the owner said it has not moved since 1966.I hope there is enough there to rebuild. I will post pictures when if I bring it home.
Thank you; Paul |

its right around 7" lower than stock. up front i have a 3" dropped axle from Sid at www.droppedaxles.com and 3 of the original 6 leafs pulled out. out back all i did was flip the rear to the inside of the leafs. got about 1" travel all the way around before bottoming out. im running gas shocks which help a lot, but the bigger bumps in the road do make it bottom out. but it aint too bad, and i like the stance, so its gonna stay. good luck with your new project. elonard

very nice truck,
I wasn't sure if they put the hood ridges on in 57 thought they did that later. learn something new everyday I guess. |

I have a hard with the 55 and 56 or even the 58 and 59 it’s especially hard if there’re no badges on them

Re: 56 or 57
I have a '59 and I still can not distinguish a 58 from a 59. or a 55 from a 56. The '57 grills look like a mouth to me. they were my favorite growing up. I brought my '59 home with plans of putting a 57 front clip on it but I fell in love with the four headlight and wider fender look! I'd say grab it whatever year it is. They stopped making these a few years ago and they are only getting harder to find.
