Solutions for speaker wires into doors
I'm putting 6x9 speakers in both doors. The previous owner already cut the holes and he just ran bare wires through a hole he drilled. I like something with a little more class. What did others do to solve this problem? I'm thinking something like this;

Re: Solutions for speaker wires into doors
what about just using some stainless branded hose
How about measure the length it needs to be and going to the junk yard and getting some of the rubber boots out of a different pickup. They would be real cheap and some armor all would make them look spiffy. all you have to do is cut some holes to stick em in.

Re: Solutions for speaker wires into doors
I would second the rubber boots. I put some of the braided sleeve ones in just like the picture at the top. There may be a better way to do it but I'm half retarded (maybe more, depending on who you ask). I had to cut a piece out of my kick panels to get the nut on the back of the threads. PITA! And to add to that, there wasn't enough room to put my wires for my electric locks, power windows, and speaker wire. I'll have to redo them with the rubber ones when I put the locks and power windows in. I read somewhere in the forums that the boots off of the rear doors on a ford van(not sure what years) work really well.

I like the electrical contacts...very clean and will look good with my shaved theme....much less noticeable than the billet piece I was going to use...

Re: Solutions for speaker wires into doors
I ended up going in COMPLETELY different direction. I ended up relocating the gas tank to the back of the truck. I can move the bench back a little more and put the speakers and a small sub in place of the old gas tank. And I don't have to screw with wires in the doors.

Re: Solutions for speaker wires into doors
i wouldn't use the contacts for speakers, everytime you open a door the speaker cuts in and out.......don't know how much power u want to push but that wouldn't be good for any amp

Re: Solutions for speaker wires into doors
Look at the LMC summer edition catalog for'73-'91 Blazer and Jimmy on page 15. They show a new item P/N 30-2381, called a door conduit w/retainer. they show a pair of them for $12.95. Illustration looks like a rubber corregated tube with flanges on each end. Flanges have 2 ears with mounting holes. Looks like you drill the hole for wires, and two holes for each each flange. Diameter is not shown, but it looks like it would be big enough to handle more than speaker wires. I might go this route.

Re: Solutions for speaker wires into doors
Motornut,
That's exactly what the illustration in the LMC catlog looks like. The one in your picture looks riveted on. It might be hard to get them off without damaging them. I don't know how much cheaper a junk yard would want than 12.95 a pair and LMC's are new. My ZR2 has them for the window's, mirrors, door locks, and speakers. They do mount a little different, but it gives me an Idea how they would look on my '71. I think that I would use sheet metal screws to mount them though rather than pop rivets. Eddie |

Re: Solutions for speaker wires into doors
the area above the rivet(looks kinda black, reinforcement around the hole)
it's flat steel but you can pop them out easier with a chisel, then driving into the side of the truck to access them.
