Installing A/C
I have not seen many links to folks installing A/C systems on their trucks. I have a 66 gmc and the dash is different than the Chevrolet.
Here is a list of what I would like to accomplish: 1. Can I save my glove box. (no storage as it is) 2. Has anyone used a slimline A/C heater combo (most are 14" deep and makes it impossible to use the space around the tunnel, I measure 12" available) 3. Knee Knockers have the same problem 14.5" deep 4. The custom A/C units really hang down low on the passenger side and you lose the glove box from what I can tell. Anybody out there have any suggestions, pictures, etc of specific systems and how they came out looking, and working. Any help would be apprecitated Kieth |

Re: Installing A/C
I installed a vintage air unit and did lose the glove box. There is no way it affects the leg room though, it is way above that.

Re: Installing A/C
I'm doing a custom install of a Vintage Air Gen IV unit. Like LT1Burb said, it won't impact leg room. The way I installed mine, there is still a lot of room in the glove box area since I drilled new holes in the firewall to route the a/c hoses. Check out my build thread for more pics and info.

Re: Installing A/C
On my Old Air AC/heat I lost about 2 inches of the glove box
in the rear of it.

Re: Installing A/C
Stay away from the old air.. It just doesn't flow enough enough air. I used to live in shreveport La and just was never satisfied with it. Probably the best unit out there right now is the Gen IV Vintage Air setup. They dont have a ready made kit for the 64-66 trucks but I'm sure you could order the condenser setup they have for our trucks then with a little modding hook up the Gen IV unit on the inside. here is a link to someone who just did the install http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=405551

Re: Installing A/C
Keith,
Here is my shot at it. Like said above, leg room is not impacted, glove box is heavily impacted. I was able to mount the evaporator far enough to the left to leave the fresh air vent accessible. I plan to build some storage behind the seat where the gas tank used to be. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=468107 TR

Re: Installing A/C
Looks like mine is a super gen II, I will see if I can get some pics of mine later today but TR65 is 3X more talented than me so it won't be as sweet of an install.
