02 silverado

Who has the best cat back dual system for my 1500 , with 4.8? Im not looking for a raspy /nasty sound, but nice mellow, & at a decent price(would prefer stainless pipes). crazyL

Thanks for the link....it sure looks like the good stuff is a tad pricey tho Have you tryed a perf muffler added to the stock system, for any gains in milege/performance?

i have the same truck and I have the Dynomax Ultra-FLo cat back system. It has a nice deep mellow tone with out much drone at all and a mild improvement in mileage. IF i keep my foot out of it i can get 21-22mpg. I also have a cold air kit, throttle body spacer, and electric cooling fan conversion. Getting ready to put on the ebay race header and Y-pipe kit to eliminate the prone to failing factory catalytic converters.

Is the dynomax kit single or dual out? Also did it fit around the spare tire? I also plan to do the throttle body spacer, & thought about a set of high flow cats. crazyL

I have the single 3" system on the 4.8. They do have a dual outlet 2.5" system and I ran that on a 99 ext cab z71 5.3L and loved it. I think it actually had a better tone and even used the 3.5" round 18" long tips which help too. both kits git perfectly around the spare tire. Dynomax has spent alot of money and time in research and you can see this in the fitment. The pipes are aluminum coated to last. The only issue i have ever had with the Ultra Flo muffler is the welds tend to crack after 2-3 years but they can ALWAYS be rewelded. The muffler itself is made of a heavy gauge metal. I had one exhaust shop tell me mine were rotted through once so i left and went to another shop and found there was absolutely no rot just a crack rewelded and went on down the road. the Ultra Flo also has a Lifetime warranty anyway so it wouldve been covered.

I had a flowmaster 40 series on my 2000, slight performance increase up top, maybe a little gas mileage, but it droned in the cab BAD! TB spacer does nothing but make noise. Best things you can do for mileage and performance is get E-fans and a custom tune.

I am running the original helix power tower spacer and noticed a good improvement in throttle response at low to mid rpm with about a 1-2 mpg improvement only if i keep my foot out of it. I have heard that some of the newer tb spacers dont work as well as the older designs and have shown little to no improvement on dynos.

I ran a pair of 40's Flows on my longhorn(full lenght system), exit through the rear bumper. I didnt like the 40's, but traded for a pair of 50's. No drone, but they are about as belgerent as the 40's at wot. I can live with at on the old hotrod, but would like something a little more mild on the DD, that the wife also drives. For the cost , I am thinking a 70's Flow(single in dual out), or a Magnaflow(same deal), & dual pipes, with custom bent pipes. I am old school, & cant see the 6-700 bones on the cat back duals that only add 8-10 ponies to the works I have heard both good & bad on the spacer & the cold air kits....but again, this is a DD,I just want to pick up a little on the perf/milage, as reasonably as possible. If I have the "need for speed", I crank up the old Longhorn, & feed the tank! Many thanks to all that have added to this thread crazyL

I went the cheap route on the exhaust, kept the stock exhaust pipe & tailpipe & installed an 11236 Magnaflow in the system. Ill have to run a couple tanks of fuel to check for any improvements, but she has a nice mellow sound(nice rumble on take off,& a little resonance in the cab around 72-75 mph). The wifey didnt complain about the noise.....so all is good. Trying to keep this one "on the cheap", as she is my daily driver, but I will report back on any gains or losses on the mileage. crazyL

i just put on the dynomax catback dual out on and i love it i had a flowmaster dual out and it rusted out the dynomax is stainless and went on easy i like the sound beter than the flows its a lot deeper and less interior drone. and best of all they have a $75 mail in rebate on them. i paid $236 when it was all done part# 39310 www.streetsideauto.com

I used to have a 02 Silverado also 5.3 litre was the only difference, I just had the muffler shop install a Flowmaster in the stock spot and used the stock tail pipe. Sounded great and only cost a bit over 100 bucks. I like the stock look also.

Did that with my new Yukon also, except had a 40 series installed on this one. Love it.

I did the same thing on my '05 Sierra and ran the duals straight out the back in an effort to kill a bit of the drone. Pulled off a new blowmaster (junk) the previous owner had installed.

I think you will pleased with the improvements with the MagnaFlow, I was.

I sure like the sound of the Magna flow, & the truck feels a little peppier.....now if I just keep my fat foot out of it, I hope to see a little on the mileage crazyL

Im still not seeing 20 +, but the last road trip sqeeked out 19 mpg. I didnt run it hard , but didnt baby it....pretty much ran 70-71 mph, unless something in front of me was rollin slower in a no pass zone. The Magnaflow sounds awesome, & the truck "feels' better The last trip, I squeazed 17.5 on the mileage, with the stock muffler.....did the muff make the diff, or is that old truck just diggin the road? Some where tween 68-72 mph seems to put that old truck in the "sweet spot". I guess I shouldnt complain, for 161K on the clock, it dont feel too damn bad crazyL
