Clutch fork stud

I have a 89 chevy truck with a 305 and 5 speed. I have the transmission out because the clutch went out. When I went to take the clutch fork off the stud in the transmission, the stud turned. I held the stud and removed the 8mm nut. After I looked on this site, the internet, and the haynes "book" I did not find out any information on an adjustment or if needed to be tightned, the stud. I tried to tighten it, but it just turns and does not get tight. My question is this normal or do I need to tighten it? The only problem I had with the clutch before it went out was the clutch pedal letting out high. The stud does have the grease zerk if this helps. I do not know what transmission I have I only found a GM number on the side, but no ID tag. Thanks for your time and any input would be great.
